It goes without saying that there were a lot of USSR residents who longed to escape to live in a democracy, but few of them were so determined as to jump off a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean and swim their way to freedom. I think my favorite is the “futuristic resort” (left) in Taiwan. They supposedly are haunted by those who died in their creation, making them one of the
few that really lives up to the “ghost town” name.
The one on the right is one of the more famous modern distaster zones -Chernobyl. Those living here had to leave pretty much all their possessions behind after the “accident.”
The Daily Mail has a story about a regular house cat who has become best friends with bear at a zoo in Berlin. It’s seriously f-ing adorable. They had to put the bear, Maeuschen -or “little mouse,” away while they renovated his living space and his buddy, Muschi -German for “pussy,” wailed outside of his cage without him. Keepers put the kitty back in the bear cage and they cuddled and were happy again. I’m going to go cry and vomit while filled with this cuteness. Excuse me.
