Why Did Dutch People Wear Wooden Shoes?

Nowadays wooden clogs are largely sold in the Netherlands as tourist souvenirs, but have you ever wondered why someone would intentionally want to walk around in shoes that could give you a splinter?

The answer goes back to the country’s name, Neterlands roughly translates into “low lands,” which describes most of the terrain in the area. Because the country is filled with so many low lands, the ground was largely boggy and wet and leather shoes would become easily ruined and could not adequately protect the wearer’s feet from becoming damp. Wooden shoes on the other, were sturdy, could survive the muck and were better at keeping feet dry.

These days they are considered good safety shoes as they are difficult to crush or penetrate. They’re also good for kicking butt, as you can tell from this great Jackie Chan clip.

New Web Concept -Photo Chaining

result222

I am in love with the idea behind this new website Photochaining. Essentially, the whole point is to get a photocard and add some strange images, then leave the memory card in an envelope instructing the person to upload their favorite image on the site. That person then takes weird images of their own and passes it along to the next person.
As much as I think this is just brilliant, I do have one thing I’d like to say: If you happen to have found a memory card around 4 years ago with all of my Europe photos on it, please send them back to me without erasing them. Wait, that was 4 years ago, at this point, it’s kinda creepy if you haven’t erased them.

To Break From The Cuteness

Take a look at these amazing cliff diving pics. There’s a handful of cliff diving spots that don’t look like you’d die just trying to do it…those are the only places I’d ever consider trying. Regardless, it does look stunning when other people do it. -Thanks for the tip Andy!

Public Trasportation That’s Not Public

If you’re like me, you’ll love this concept of trains with private seating pods. I think it would be ideal if two people could mutually agree to open their pods together if you’re traveling together, but traveling alone is a far, far improvement over the existing “hope a stranger doesn’t molest or rob you” method of public transit. Of course, maybe I just like that idea because I’m anti-social.

The one drawback I really see as impassable, what do you do with the pervs and junkies who violate the very privacy they long for?

Why Isn’t American Airlines Offering Beds And Blowjobs?

Pssh, free wifi, that’s nothing. You could be getting a bj, or at least that’s what RyanAir thinks. The low cost, cut-throat airline popularized by pure Eurotrash will surely be pulling in even more trash now. In a shocking interview -even the translator was too stunned to talk, Michael O’Leary, head of the airline, suggested that passengers traveling business class will be betting head on the flight. He didn’t mention anything about getting face, so I wonder if lady passengers will be outta luck.

The cost of the flight will be between about $6000 and $8000 (yes, you read that right). Of course, passengers flying economy, sans beds or oral sex will only have to shell out around $16 plus tax.

Grave Discovered in Planned Subway Line

A subway system in an ancient city like Greece and Rome is always strange. When you ride them as an American, it seems like the strangest thing in the world to exit a subway and suddenly see something like the Coliseum facing you right out the exit.
Building them is even more mind boggling, as evidenced by the discovery of an ancient grave found while digging for a Greek subway. Imagine how many other random graves that old are still lying underground in these cities.
